James McCaffery was born in Ireland but bought up in New York. He graduated from the University of New Haven for which he earned a football, baseball and fine arts scholarship. After completing his graduation he moved to Boston where he worked as a bartender, artist, and graphic designer and commercial art director. He started his acting career by playing small roles in various stage productions. In 1985, McCaffery moved to New York and joined the Actor’s Studio. He currently lives with his family in Albany, New York.
He made his debut on television in 1991 in Philadelphia Heat. Later he appeared in shows like Civil Wars, Telling Secrets, VIPER, New York Undercover, Swift Justice, Canterbury’s Law etc. In addition he has played roles in films like The Truth About Cats and Dogs, The Jackal, Nick and Jane, The Toc Code, Feel the Noise, Hide and Seek, and The Last Call.
Role In Rescue Me
In Rescue Me, he plays the role of Jimmy Keefe. Being Tommy’s cousin and best friend, he is the person closest to Tommy’s heart. He died before the start of the series. He lost his life while saving people in the September 2001 terrorist attacks. He appears as a Ghost in Tommy’s dreams and often helps him find solution to his problems. As the series progresses, his widow, Sheila has an affair with Tommy and even becomes pregnant with his child.
