Rescue Me is a comedy drama dedicated to the numerous firefighters who risk their lives everyday to save other peoples lives. The series which is created by Dennis Leary and Peter Tolan premiered on FX Network on 21st July 2004. The show concentrates on the personal and professional lives of the fire fighters of New York City after facing the ordeal of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. The story revolves around the internal functioning of Engine 62 which is a firehouse in New York City. Tommy Gravin is the senior firefighter at the firehouse, who has lost his best friend and cousin, Jimmy Keefe in the 2001 attacks. Tommy’s life is in turmoil, because of his recent separation from his wife Janet. In order to be close to his three children as well as to keep an eye on Janet, Tommy moves into a house just across the street. He becomes prickly, self destructive, deceitful, calculative and alcoholic. He gets rid of his tensions and fears by opening up his heart to his dead cousin with whom he talks in his dreams.
His boss, Chief Jerry Reily is considered a good chief, but is an addict to gambling and places a bet on any and everything. Then there is Sean Garrity who is a young good looking guy but seems quite absorbed in himself only. Tommy’s right hand man is Franco Rivera, who is an arrogant and flirt Puerto Rican. There is also Lt. Kenny “Lou” Shea, who loves to write poetry to release himself from emotional stress. Mike Silletti, who has just started his career as a firefighter, has to bear many practical jokes that his colleagues play on him. At the start of the series, the story was based around these characters. However as the series advanced, many new characters were introduced which stayed on as main characters. Till date four seasons of the series have been aired with the final episode of the fourth season telecasted on 12th September 2007. The fifth season of the series is supposed to start on 1st March 2009. It has been reported that the fifth season was delayed due to the strike of the Writers Guild of America.
